The Department of English at Green University of Bangladesh successfully hosted a three-day book fair (বাঙ্গালা গবেষণা বইমেলা), on its campus from July 19th to July 21st, 2024. The event was a significant part of the "Frantz Fanon at 100" week-long celebration, prominently featuring translated works of Frantz Fanon, alongside other notable publications. The book fair was organized in collaboration with বাঙ্গালা গবেষণা (Bangla Gobeshona), a distinguished publishing house.

The book fair was meticulously managed by key members of Bangla Gobeshona:

Afzalul Bashar: Director of Bangla Gobeshona.

Anowar Shams Adnan: Proofreader and Marketing Manager.

Poet Mashuk Shahi: A celebrated poet, contributing to the fair's literary ambiance.

The fair showcased a diverse collection of books, with several titles achieving remarkable sales:

"কালো চামড়া ধলা মুখোশ" (Black Skin, White Masks) by Dr. Md. Shamim Mondal: This highly anticipated translation of Fanon's seminal work was the most celebrated book at the fair, selling over 6 copies.

"অচেনা আপন" (Unknown Self) by Dr. Md. Shamim Mondal: This book emerged as the bestseller of the fair, with an impressive sale of over 17 copies.

Other Works by Dr. Md. Shamim Mondal: His other notable books, "আফ্রিকার চোখে" (In the Eyes of Africa), "সমকালীন জীবন" (Contemporary Life), "দ্যা ব্রেড উইনার" (The Breadwinner), and "R. K. নারায়ণ" (R. K. Narayan), collectively sold over 38 copies, demonstrating the author's popularity.

"শতবর্ষে ফ্রান্স ফানো ও আমাদের উত্তরাধিকার" (Frantz Fanon at 100 and Our Legacy) by Dr. Elham Hossain: A significant highlight of the fair was the book launch (মোড়ক উন্মোচন) of this new publication. It garnered considerable attention, selling over 16 copies. Dr. Hossain also had several other books on display, including "চিনুয়া আচেবে সবকিছু ভেঙে চুরে যাবে" (Chinua Achebe: Things Fall Apart).

Works by Abs Abu Bakar Nadim: Abs Abu Bakar Nadim, a talented student from the English Department, showcased two of his books, "অতঃপর নিখোঁজ বিজ্ঞপ্তি" (Then Missing Person's Notice) and "হয়তোবা আজ আসবে" (Perhaps It Will Come Today), selling a combined total of 9 copies.

The book fair was graced by the presence and active participation of distinguished faculty members and esteemed guests from various disciplines, underscoring the academic and literary significance of the event.

Prof. Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed: Pro Vice Chancellor, Green University of Bangladesh.

Dr. Elham Hossain: Associate Professor, Department of English.

Dr. Md. Shamim Mondal: Chairperson, Department of English.

Numerous other interdisciplinary faculty members were observed actively celebrating the fair and acquiring various books, fostering a vibrant intellectual atmosphere.

Dr. Nagesh Rao: Associate Professor, English and Modern Languages, Independent University, Bangladesh, and Keynote Speaker for the 3rd seminar of the "Frantz Fanon at 100" series.

Azfar Hussain: Associate Professor, Grand Valley State University; Vice President, Global Center for Advanced Studies, a polymath scholar and activist, and Keynote Speaker for the 4th seminar.

The book fair (বাঙ্গালা গবেষণা বইমেলা), held in conjunction with the "Frantz Fanon at 100" week, was a resounding success. It not only provided a platform for the display and sale of significant literary works, especially those related to Frantz Fanon, but also served as a vibrant hub for academic discourse and intellectual exchange among faculty, students, and distinguished guests. The enthusiastic participation and impressive book sales reflect the keen interest in literature and critical thought within the Green University of Bangladesh community.
