The Department of English, in collaboration with the English Club, Green University of Bangladesh (GUB), successfully organized the third session of its Book Talk Series, The Speaking Page, on 10 October 2026. Titled “Feeding the Ambition: Dissecting Appetite by P. Paramita,” the session brought together faculty members and students for a critical discussion of the novel and an engaging exchange of literary perspectives.
The program was graced by Prof. Dr. M. Shahidullah, Professor, Department of English and Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, GUB, as the Special Guest. The session featured Dr. Md. Elham Hossain, Associate Professor, Department of English and Director of GCiA, as the Speaker, and Ms. Ayesha Kabir, Head of English Web, Prothom Alo, as the Discussant. The session was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Mondol, Chairperson, Department of English. The program was hosted by Abdullah Bin Bashar, Lecturer, Department of English.
Dr. Md. Elham Hossain led the session with an insightful discussion of Appetite, offering reflections that encouraged the audience to explore the novel from different perspectives. His presentation set the stage for a thoughtful literary conversation. As Discussant, Ms. Ayesha Kabir extended the discussion through her perceptive comments, thoughtful responses, and engaging interaction, enriching the audience’s understanding of the work.
In his address, the Special Guest, Prof. Dr. M. Shahidullah, emphasized the importance of literary and critical engagement and highlighted the value of creating opportunities for meaningful academic conversations around literature. He also expressed his appreciation to the Speaker and Discussant for their contributions to the session. The Session Chair, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Mondol, highlighted the strengths of the novel in his remarks. His critical observations added another dimension to the discussion and made the literary conversation even more engaging.
Following the discussion, tokens of appreciation were presented to the Speaker and Discussant in recognition of their valuable contributions to the session. The department of English thanks the speaker and the discussant for their insightful contribution to the speaking page series.

The program also featured an interactive question-and-answer session in which faculty members and students engaged directly with the Speaker and Discussant. Their questions and observations encouraged further reflection on the novel and created an opportunity to exchange interpretations and critical perspectives.
The third session of The Speaking Page reaffirmed the Department of English’s commitment to promoting critical reading, literary appreciation, and meaningful academic dialogue. Through this initiative, the Department continues to create opportunities for students and faculty members to engage with literary works, explore diverse perspectives, and connect literature with broader questions of human experience.
