
The Department of English at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) proudly organized the Freshers’ Orientation Program for the inaugural batch of the MA Program, Fall 2026, on 3 October 2026 at Room 302(A). The event marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the Department as it welcomed its first-ever cohort of MA students.
The orientation program was designed to introduce the newly admitted students to the Department’s academic environment, faculty members, learning and research opportunities, student support services, and the broader vision of postgraduate education at Green University of Bangladesh. It also provided the students with an opportunity to connect with their teachers and become familiar with the academic culture and aspirations of the Department.



The program commenced with an inspiring welcome and orientation address by Dr. Elham Hossain, Associate Professor, Department of English and Director of GCiA. Welcoming the inaugural cohort, Dr. Hossain emphasized the importance of approaching postgraduate education with curiosity, creativity, intellectual engagement, and a commitment to continuous learning. He encouraged the students to make meaningful use of the academic, research, and professional opportunities available to them.
Dr. Serajum Munira, Associate Professor, Department of English and Director of CLCS and CCD, shared valuable insights into academic guidance, mentorship, and student support. She highlighted the importance of maintaining meaningful communication with teachers, seeking guidance whenever necessary, and remaining actively engaged throughout the postgraduate journey.
Addressing the students, Mr. Mohammad Golam Mohiuddin, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Assistant Director of GCiA, emphasized academic engagement, motivation, responsibility, and professional development. He encouraged the newcomers to participate actively in departmental activities and to pursue opportunities for personal and professional growth beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
The program’s Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. M. Shahidullah, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, GUB, congratulated the inaugural cohort on embarking on this new academic journey. In his address, he encouraged the students to approach postgraduate education with enthusiasm and make effective use of the academic opportunities available to them. He also underscored the importance of active engagement in learning and personal development as they progress toward their academic and professional goals.



The session was chaired by Dr. Md. Shamim Mondol, Chairperson, Department of English, GUB, who warmly welcomed the students to the Department. In his address, Dr. Mondol highlighted the significance of quality education, intellectual growth, critical thinking, research, and professional development at the postgraduate level. He encouraged the students to engage actively with teachers and peers and to participate in academic activities, seminars, conferences, and research opportunities. He expressed his confidence that the inaugural cohort would make meaningful contributions to the growing academic community of the Department.
The orientation program was therefore more than a formal welcome—it marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Department of English at Green University of Bangladesh. With the launch of its inaugural MA cohort, the Department looks forward to fostering an intellectually stimulating environment where students can develop their academic potential, research interests, creativity, critical thinking, and professional aspirations.
As the first MA batch begins its postgraduate journey, the Department of English remains committed to providing quality education, encouraging academic collaboration and research, facilitating seminars and conferences, and creating meaningful opportunities for students’ academic and professional development.
