Department of English successfully conducted Seminar 1 of the academic series, titled "Black Skin, White Masks: কালা চামড়া, ধলা মুখোশ — ঔপনিবেশিক দাসত্বের মনস্তত্ত্বের ব্যবচ্ছেদ", was successfully held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Room A-302, Green University of Bangladesh.
We were honoured by the gracious presence of our Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shorif Uddin, who joined the inaugural session and expressed his best wishes for the continued success of this seminar series.
The event commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Dr. Md. Elham Hossain, Associate Professor, Department of English, followed by the seamless anchoring of the program by Mr. M. Ashiqur Rahman Sourav, Lecturer and Program Coordinator, Department of English.
Our distinguished speaker, Mr. Javed Hussain, a renowned Translator and Public Speaker, captivated the audience with his thought-provoking presentation on Frantz Fanon’s seminal work Black Skin, White Masks. His talk critically examined Fanon’s insights on racism, slavery, and the psychological effects of colonialism, urging us to confront alienation and embrace a shared human dignity in our journey towards justice and humanity.
Following the talk, there was a thoughtful question and answer session. However, due to time constraints, we were unable to accommodate all questions, but the engagement reflected the deep interest and active participation of the students.
The seminar concluded with Dr. Md. Shamim Mondol, Honorable Chairperson, Department of English, offering heartfelt vote of thanks to the speaker, participants, and the university for their support and contribution to the success of the event. Also, he quoted from Fanon's Black Skin White Masks:কালা চামড়া ধলা মুখোশ,
"হে আমার শরীর, আমাকে সে মানুষ করে রেখো, যে প্রশ্ন করে" which reflects on Fanon's intent, not just a literal call to the body, but a deeper plea to remain critically aware, intellectually active, and resistant to passive acceptance.
We sincerely thank everyone who attended and contributed to making this seminar an enriching and inspiring academic experience. We look forward to your continued support and participation in our upcoming seminars.
