GUB Library Organizes Library Orientation Program in Collaboration with the Department of English

The Green University Library, in collaboration with the Department of English, Green University of Bangladesh, successfully organized a Library Orientation Program for newly admitted students on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall (B-103).

The program was designed to familiarize students with the Library’s resources, services, facilities, and access procedures through an informative presentation and practical demonstrations. It aimed to help students make effective use of the Library throughout their academic journey. The program was anchored by Ms. Nelima Abedin, a student of the Department of English, who formally inaugurated the session and invited the student representative, Ms. Atkia Siddiquei Anika, to deliver the welcome address. In her motivational remarks, she encouraged the freshers to utilize the Library regularly and highlighted its vital role in supporting academic success and lifelong learning.

Following the welcome address, Ms. Aklima Akter, Assistant Professor, Department of English, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the importance of cultivating a strong reading habit and making effective use of the Library’s extensive print and electronic collections. She encouraged the newly admitted students to develop a consistent reading practice and to explore the wide range of academic materials available through the Library. She also highlighted the importance of independent learning and effective information use in strengthening students’ academic performance, research capabilities, critical thinking, and intellectual development. Her remarks encouraged students to view the Library not merely as a place for accessing books, but as an important academic space for learning, exploration, and personal growth.

The technical session was conducted by Ms. Zakia Sultana Tamanna, Library Officer, Green University Library, who served as the program facilitator. She provided a comprehensive and practical overview of the Library’s print and electronic collections, borrowing policies, study facilities, library rules and regulations, remote access services, and digital resources. She also introduced students to advanced search techniques and effective strategies for locating and evaluating scholarly information. A live demonstration was conducted on searching the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), accessing e-books, e-journals, databases, and other scholarly resources available through the Library. Through the hands-on demonstration, students were guided on how to search for relevant academic materials, navigate digital resources, and make efficient use of the Library’s online services. The session equipped the students with practical skills that will support their academic coursework, research activities, and independent study throughout their university life.

At the conclusion of the program, the facilitator expressed sincere appreciation to the Department of English, the organizing team, faculty members, and participating students for their enthusiastic participation and valuable support in making the event a success.

The orientation provided the newly admitted students with practical knowledge of the Library’s resources and services and encouraged them to make the Library an integral part of their academic journey.
